This lamp with wings is named after the Greek mythology, Daedalus and Icarus.

Daedalus was a great inventor who worked for ruthless King Minos.
When they tried to escape from the cruel king, Daedalus built wings for himself, and his son Icarus, by fabricating wings using feathers and wax.

Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, as it would melt the wax, and not too close to the sea, as it would dampen the feathers and make it hard to fly. But half way to safety, Icarus became ecstatic and careless. He flew too close to the sun fell to his death, drowning in the sea.

Designed by Tord Boontje and made with mylar, the feathered lamp is very unusual, elegant, and romantic

The stand comes in either brass or silver chrome    diam 25.4 cm x  H 56 cm
